Parking in Metuchen

on Fri, 10/16/2015 - 01:36
This information provided by Bob Quinlan as of 10/15/15. Note parking can be a bit inconvenient. Give yourself enough time to figure it out. Walk starts at 8:30 try to arrive soon after 8:00.
Parking is extremely limited in the area of the Metuchen Train Station. Almost every street is reserved for residents or limited to 2 hour parking and/or metered. Parking at the train station lot requires a sticker (except on Sundays and holidays).  Here are three options:
1. There is a small parking lot on Station Place (off Pennsylvania Ave.) with about 14 metered spaces where non-residents can park for up to 24 hours. Parking for 12 hours costs $5 in coins. If anyone wants to try to grab one of these spaces, they need to bring plenty of quarters. This is the closest parking available, but most of the spaces in this lot require a sticker. There is only one row of spaces that don't require a sticker and have metered parking for more than 2 hours. These spaces were all filled today but will probably be open on Saturdaymorning.
2. There should be about 12-14 spaces available (at no cost) in the parking lot at the MetuchenMunicipal Building, behind Police Headquarters. This is located on Middlesex Avenue (Route 27),just south of Linden Avenue, near the Metuchen Public Library. Turn into the driveway at the Fire Signal. This parking lot is located about 2 or 3 blocks from the train station- probably the best option for our members. I was asked to let the desk sergeant know that our cars will be there all day on Saturday. (I wouldn't send this info. to non-members)
3.  There is a huge parking lot available at the entrance to the Middlesex Greenway, located on Middlesex Avenue (Route 27), opposite Fulton Bank (address: 700 Middlesex Avenue, Metuchen, NJ 08840).  Police Department says its ok to park on the grass at this lot if the gravel parking area fills. There are plenty of parking spaces here (no cost), but it's about 1/2 mile to the train station.
